F.A.Q.
Will there be bilingual assistance provided?
Most of our teachers are bilingual in English and Spanish, so there will always be at least one teaching artist that can help Spanish-speakers. Hopefully we will unlock more languages soon!
The program is also a great experience for students who are learning English because it provides another way to build confidence in speaking, learn new words and phrases in a playful manner, and, of course, develop bonds with classmates while exploring new artistic approaches.
Will lunch be provided?
MiND will provide a cold lunch and one afternoon snack for the summer program. If your participant has an allergy or specific food preferences, we request that they bring their lunch each day to prevent contamination. Participants must bring their own water bottle.
Thanks to Miami-Dade County’s Summer Food Service Program, this year our Intensive sites will be able to offer free, nutritionally balanced meals to children under 18. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
Is there before-care or after-care available?
Not yet for this program. If it’s something that would benefit you and your family, please email us expressing your interest and needs so we can consider it for future programs.
Do you offer scholarships?
Yes! We believe every child should have access to the arts, regardless of financial circumstances.
We offer full scholarships funded in part by The Children’s Trust for qualifying families. Miami New Drama’s Summer Theater Intensive is funded in part by The Children’s Trust. The Children’s Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County.
In addition, we offer partial scholarships funded by Miami New Drama for families who may not meet the requirements for a full scholarship but still need support. Our goal is to make sure every young artist has the opportunity to participate and thrive.
When filling out the registration form, just check off that you are interested in applying for a scholarship and the form will help you through the next steps.
Is there a sibling discount?
If you do not qualify for scholarships, please email us about interest in a sibling discount.
Does my student have to audition?
Rather than holding formal auditions, we observe students throughout the process as they grow and engage in class through a variety of exercises. This helps our teaching artists understand each student’s strengths and interests more holistically. All of our shows incorporate a collaborative creation component, meaning every student is guaranteed a role in the final performance.
I’m not sure if my child likes theater or will want to pursue it as a career. Is this program still suitable?
Definitely! MiND programs are designed to emphasize creative exploration and personal growth rather than professional preparation. Every child is welcomed as a co-creator and leaves with skills in confidence, collaboration, critical thinking, and the ability to develop teamwork skills to achieve collective success —tools that are useful and applicable in any path they choose, beyond the arts.
My child has never participated in theater before—can they still join the program?
Yes! No prior experience is necessary. Our intensives are designed for all skill levels and adapted to meet each participant where they are. We focus on building a strong foundation in a fun and supportive environment. This year, we will have two groups: one for advanced students and another for new students. This allows us to better support each participant—students with prior experience can encounter new challenges and opportunities for artistic growth, while newer students have the time and space to explore and develop new skills.
