Without a great book, a musical doesn’t stand a chance. It’s the backbone of the form which is why the best playwright for the job by miles was South Florida’s very own Aurin Squire. A son of Miami Gardens, Aurin’s relationship to Louis Armstrong began playing the violin in Lauderhill Symphonette, a small child’s orchestra. Playing everything from bluegrass to classical to jazz standards, his connection to the legend grew and now continues to strengthen as he plays the notes of Satchmo’s life for the stage. It’s a responsibility he’s honored to be given and one he was more than ready to run with.
One of the most sensitive and thoughtful writers working in theater and television today, Aurin has written a book worthy of Armstrong’s shine, taking a look at his life from the inside for the whole wonderful world to see.
